Jeremy Allen White knows The Bear's secret ingredient is his fellow castmates.
Which is why when Liza Colón-Zayas won her first Emmy Sept. 15 for her work as Tina on the series, he couldn’t have been happier.
“It was the best, man,” Jeremy told E! News at Disney’s after-party, reflecting on the moment Liza’s name was announced. “I was backstage and I heard she'd won and I got to run into the wings and I got to witness her by myself, which was a really beautiful moment.”
The 33-year-old—who also won his second Emmy for his role as Carmy on the FX series—continued, “She spoke so beautifully and she's just one of the best actors that we have, and I'm just so glad that she's being recognized on this level because she just deserves it so much.”
And while Liza noted in her speech she hadn’t been expecting the win—and thus hadn’t written anything down ahead of time—she still allowed herself to enjoy every moment of the evening.
“I feel like I’m on cloud nine,” she told Live From E! cohost Heather McMahan on the carpet ahead of the ceremony. “I’m still trying to process it. It’s on steroids, this joy, and to be in the company of these legends.”
Because indeed, the 52-year-old had some stiff competition in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category; in winning, Liza beat out Palm Royale’s Carol Burnett, Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder, Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James as well as Only Murders in the Building’s Meryl Streep.
“I am truly in awe of the work of every single one of these artists,” Liza confessed to Heather. “So I feel like I’ve already won, just to be put in that category with them.”
But win she did, and the first Latina actress to emerge victorious in her category gave a moving acceptance speech.
“Thank you for giving me a new life with this show,” she shared onstage. “And to all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights.”
